Research

C3FT was originally developed to easily and accurately gather driver pass statistics. Versions 2 and 3 continue to provide the functionality to enable the capture of data is useful for Universities with Transportation Research Departments, City Planners, and Bicycle Advocacy Agencies to develop an in-depth view on how various lane configurations and rider positions impact the interactions between transportation modes.

Collecting passing statistics is challenging as it relies not just on individual distance measurements, but  multiple variables related to both the facility configuration and rider position, and in some jurisdictions posted speeds or even vehicle type. C3FT provides an easy to use platform for the measurement and collection of real world in-situ vehicle pass data and post-pass behavior so that statistics can be gathered not just on general driver behavior, but also on how driver pass behavior is influenced by roadway design, lane configuration, and rider positioning.

This data can then be used to inform policy decisions, influence roadway configuration selection, and develop targeted education and outreach campaigns.
